Your data on Flower of Fifths
Last updated 14 October 2026
Flower of Fifths is a set of music-theory guides and tools for guitarists. This page says what the site keeps about you, where, and why. The short version: without an account, what the site remembers stays in your browser. With an account, your email address and your saved progress are kept with it, so they follow you to every device you sign in on.
Who looks after it
Flower of Fifths is run by Jiddu Alexander, the Netherlands, who is responsible for the data described here. For anything on this page, write to hello@floweroffifths.com.
What stays on your device
Your browser keeps a few things in its own storage so the site works the way you left it:
- Your settings: light or dark, left- or right-handed, how the neck is drawn, and which guitar sound you picked. These belong to the device and never go anywhere, account or not.
- Your progress: how far you have read in each guide, so the home page can offer to pick up where you stopped.
- Your ear-training record: it keeps, per day, which distance you heard and which you named, so the trainer can lean on what you confuse. We also add these up across everyone, without names or accounts, to see which distances are hard; that total is the only other use made of them.
- While you are signed in: your sign-in session, so you stay signed in, and a note of what was last saved to your account.
The site also keeps copies of its own pages and files, so it opens without a connection. Clearing your browser's data for this site removes all of it. Signing out removes your progress, your ear-training record and your session from that device, so the next person to use it starts fresh; your settings stay.
What an account keeps
You never need an account: every guide and tool works without one. If you make one, it keeps:
- Your email address, to send you sign-in links and to know it is you. There is no password.
- When the account was made and when you last signed in, which the sign-in service records.
- Your progress and your ear-training record, the same ones listed above, so they match on every device you use. Your ear-training record keeps, per day, which distance you heard and which you named, so the trainer can lean on what you confuse. We also add these up across everyone, without names or accounts, to see which distances are hard; that total is the only other use made of them.
All of it is used to run the site for you and for nothing else. It is never sold, never shared for advertising, and you get no marketing email.
The companies that handle it
- Supabase runs the accounts and the sign-in, in its Frankfurt data centre in the EU. It holds your email address, your account and your saved progress.
- Resend sends the sign-in emails, so it sees your email address and the message.
- Netlify hosts the site and serves every page. Like any web host, it sees your IP address and the pages you ask for, in its server logs.
- Cloudflare runs the domain's address book (DNS) and counts visits with its Web Analytics. That count sets no cookies and does not follow you to other sites: it records the page you visited, the page you came from, your kind of browser and device, and your country.
Each of them handles this data on the site's behalf, under a data processing agreement. Some are based in the United States; their agreements cover moving data out of the EU.
Why you see no cookie banner
The site sets no cookies of its own, shows no ads and runs no trackers. Everything it stores on your device is listed above, and each piece is there for something you asked the site to do: remember your settings, your place in a guide, your practice, or that you are signed in. The EU rules let a site keep that kind of storage without asking first, so there is nothing to ask. If that ever changes, the site will ask before it stores anything.
How long it is kept
On your device, until you clear it; if you were signed in, your progress and practice leave the device when you sign out. In your account, for as long as you keep the account. The hosts' server logs are kept for the short periods their own policies set.
Getting a copy, or deleting it all
You can ask for a copy of everything kept about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. Your account page does two of these for you, at once: "Download my data" saves everything stored with your account as one file, and "Delete my account" deletes the account and everything stored with it. For anything else, write to hello@floweroffifths.com and it is done by hand, within a month at the latest.
If you think your data has been handled wrongly, you can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
